Welcome to Wholly Thursday

➀ SUCCESS

Keywords & Images that come to mind and heart when I think of "My vision of success for myself."

Where do I place myself given my present vision of success?

1-My vision of success leaves me feeling empty
4-My vision of success leaves me feeling full

Please take your time reading the Manifesto. There is a question at the end.

IGNITE MANIFESTO

At Ignite, we know these to be true:

Genius

First, that I am gifted with my own Genius–
unique, unrepeated and unrepeatable
for all time.

Purpose

Second, that my singular Genius bears
the thumbprint of Who I Am and Why I am Here.

Genius points to Purpose, Purpose to Genius.

Service

Third, that I can only give out
of what I have been given.
And what I have been given,
I must give and live for others.

Genius finds its fullness in Service–
a Purpose bigger than self.

Mission

Fourth, that if I am honest and brave,
my personal Genius, Purpose and Service (GPS)
will lead me to a shared Mission—
with others, for others.

A Mission rooted in finding
that particular slice of humanity
whose particular pains
I am particularly gifted
(and compelled!) to heal.

Collaboration

Fifth, that shared Mission
leads naturally to Collaboration.

Shared Mission demands
Shared Genius: mine, yours, ours.

Innovation

If we are a collection of our own Genius–
each unique, unrepeated, unrepeatable–
where then can we go, but to Innovation.

Impact

We Ignite, therefore, not just for self,
but for each other.

Because what we are born to do,
we are born to do with others
and for others.

We need each other’s Genius.
And far beyond Genius,
we need each other to be on this journey,
to fulfill this necessary progression:
from a sense of our own individual
Genius, Purpose, and Service (GPS)
toward shared Mission and Collaboration,
and ultimately, to Innovation and Impact.

Transcendence

This is the path of transcendence.

This is how we lift each other
to heights we never in our wildest dreams,
or loftiest ambitions, dared.

Virtuous Cycle

Keywords & Images that come to mind and heart when I read the Manifesto above.

➂ DISCERNMENT 1

Genius, Purpose, Service—or simply, GPS. If we know our GPS, then we have our own deeply personal navigation system for life. GPS will continually lead us where we need to go, who we are called to be, for whom. It does not matter what success we achieve in life; our path to joy and meaning goes through GPS. But only if we pay attention. Waze cannot help if we’re not listening; same with GPS.

Far from an exact science, GPS is a lifelong triangulation—lifelong listening. This is the deeply personal exercise of Discernment: entering again and again into life’s most important conversations. Some call it God or praying to God. Regardless, if you are human, it does not matter what you call God, or even that you do or do not believe in God. Still and above all, you will recognize and cherish life’s most important conversations. They are Humanity’s Questions: our unquenchable quest for answers, for truth, for joy and meaning.

Everyday we are revealed new data points and coordinates. New pieces of our own puzzle; new threads on the Tapestry of I; new stars on the Constellation of Who am I? Why am I here? What was I born to do?

You may run through all these 10 questions or just pick a few, or even just one that most speaks to you. We have added a space for notes. It’s up to you if you want to journal here or if you want to use your own tools. Either way, your answers are yours alone.

1 What can I give? To whom? For what pains that they suffer? With what gifts of mine am I able to heal their pains?
2 Life as we know it can change so drastically in only a few hours, days, weeks. The world has so many new needs in our new normal. What can I give? What is it in me that is good, that is gifted, that remains in me no matter how much the world changes, that will allow me to stay relevant and keep being a force for good—yesterday, today, tomorrow and for many tomorrows after?
3 What can I give, deeply, of my self?
4 To whom can I give? To whom can I give deeply? To whom am I most compelled to give, whose needs I can touch and keep touching—yesterday, today, tomorrow and for many tomorrows after? Sustainability is a good question. I don’t want to be a flash-in-the-pan giver; here today, gone tomorrow. My gifts are better than that.
5 I can only give out of what I have been given. And so conversely, I cannot give what I have not been given. So here and now I focus all my energy on what I have been given. But not just that; I focus all of me on the best in me that I have been given. Because that is what the world will demand of me: the best of me. What comes to mind when I say the best of me?
6 What is it in me that is most alive in me, that gives me great joy, that I most want to give of myself for the betterment of others?
7 What pains have I encountered most meaningfully in my own life? How have my pains been a gift—because they allowed me to care deeply? How have my pains moved me to Empathy (knowing the pain of others)? To Compassion (knowing the pain of others and so wanting to act on it)? To Love (knowing the pain of others and so wanting to give the very best in myself to heal their pain)?
8 Or maybe the question is not so much what pain, but Who? Who do I encounter most meaningfully in my own life? Beyond the easy answer of my inner circle of family and friends (this is too easy for us Filipinos and it too often leads us to too narrowly defined sense of service and impact—i.e., only to family): Who are the people whose pains I encounter most meaningfully in my life? They might be colleagues at work, customers or partners of our organization, or my household staff or security guards or custodians or…?
9 For these people I encounter most meaningfully—what are their pains that seem to nag at me? Who and what is this slice of humanity entrusted to me, whose pains I am most gifted and compelled to heal?
10 What pains—what human or societal conditions—do I care about so deeply that I am willing to (or at least I feel a deep desire to) dedicate my life (my career) to addressing them? What are these pains that nag at me, that keep me restless? What will I offer of myself, of my life and living, to replace these pains with good?
* To whom much is given, much will be asked in return.

What is my limitless abundance or Genius—the much that I have been given? For what Purpose is this abundance good for—to heal what pains? To whom am I being asked to give this abundance—for what Service?

➃ DISCERNMENT 2

If I am honest and brave, my Genius, Purpose and Service (GPS) will lead me to a shared Mission—with others, for others.

A mission rooted in finding that particular slice of humanity whose particular pains I am particularly gifted (and compelled) to heal.

If you were to launch something today (a project, venture, initiative, or even a new line of work), where would your GPS to lead you to?

Zero in on your Target Stakeholder? Who would you serve?

Zero in on your Target Problem/s? What pains of your Target Stakeholder would you serve?

Zero in on Vision of Impact? What would your From-To Statement be to clarify the key change you envision for your Target Stakeholder and Pain? Complete the Detla (Change) Statement below referencing what changes for your Target Stakeholder:

Examples:

From: Feeling alone about their situation.
To: Feeling connected with kindred spirits that they share the same problem and seek the same solutions.

From: Having irregular income and jobs.
To: Enjoying regular income from stable jobs.

➄ DISCERNMENT 3
